A Royal tradition - Gemstone Cameo Portraits
Portrait cameos were often gifts from royalty to their favorite subjects. The finest of these antique cameos, some more than 2000 years old are often displayed in museums.
Recently Gareth Eckley made this cameo brooch of Pocahontas. This was presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II while she was in Richmond, Virginia as part of the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown settlement.

About the Cameo Artist
With 28 years of experience; this award winning artist has the gift of knowing how to breathe life into each carved portrait jewel. He is very passionate about his art and loves to travel to meet his customers whenever possible.
Gareth says "My goal is to capture the soul of the person. I imagine what they are like inside and put that feeling into the portrait carving. I really enjoy the collaborative process involved in portraiture. I work closely with my client to ensure that together we create an exceptional gemstone cameo portrait."
" Gareth Eckley carves cameos with such precision and grace that they have attracted the attention of several discerning collectors. With the Pocahontas Cameo, Eckley strove to attain a level of authenticity by meticulously searching for natural layered agate - coming as close as he could to the original. The completed Pocahontas brooch, now in the Queens' collection at Buckingham Palace, has already earned it's place as an historical cameo of note. "
